What You Will Do
The Nuclear Process Infrastructure (NPI) Division is looking for a Deputy Division Leader (Manufacturing Manager
5) to support NPI with both technical and operational leadership. You will function as a key part of the NPI Division Management team overseeing a diverse workforce that is responsible for waste and nuclear material processes spanning numerous LANL programs and sites. Under your leadership we will achieve plutonium mission success at PF-4, while continuing supporting the analytical chemistry and materials science support facilities (CMR and RLUOB), and the solid and liquid waste facilities (RLWTF, TWF, RANT, and WCRRF).
NPI also supports a variety of defense and non-defense programs including pit production and surveillance ARIES, NASA heat sources, integration with ALDPI in support of construction, and shipping of special nuclear material across the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) complex and off-site.
Duties include but are not limited to the following.
- Assist the division leader with improving current strategies while developing future strategies that are consistent with the missions, and priorities of the institution. These strategies will include ensuring effective planning and integration related to assigned scope, including shift work and 24/7 operations.
- Provide effective leadership that enables the NPI workforce to succeed in meeting the Division's deliverables.
- Identify and act on opportunities to influence direction, policy and vision, both internal and external to the organization.
- Recruit, train, improve, and retain critical skills within the workforce.
Job Requirements
- Technical Knowledge
:- Demonstrated accomplishments and expertise in one or more of the NPI's core capabilities or closely related field(s).
- Expert‑level excellence in the leadership and management of technical projects and staff, including a record of successful teamwork and consensus building within and across organizational boundaries.
- Leadership Capabilities
:- Proven ability to maintain and strengthen the Division by leading the development of professional and technical skills needed to meet ALDWP's programmatic requirements, as well as expert-level knowledge and experience leading multidisciplinary groups in a production environment.
- Safety and Security
:- Expert‑level knowledge of safety, security, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements needed to manage work in a nuclear facility, coupled with a strong commitment to excellence, health and safety, security, and employee development.
- Business Operations
:- Extensive experience leading business operations, finance, human resources, procurement, and other related activities.
- Ability to maintain existing relationships, as well as grow new business relations in support of NPI's mission, both internally, and externally.
DOE 426.2:
Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience. Job‑related education or experience may be substituted on a case‑by‑case basis. The degree may substitute up to 50% of the experience requirement per section of I4.e of the CRD.
Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications- Knowledge of LANL's technical and manufacturing portfolios with an understanding of how they broadly support LANL's national security mission areas.
- Demonstrated experience with Staff Planning and Training programs.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to continuous improvement process and leadership principles.
- You will receive functional and operational directions from the Division and/or Directorate Management and be expected to assist in the management of activities through first or second level managers.
