What You Will Do
We are currently seeking an Operations Manager for LANSCE Facility Operations Division. The position provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight of facility operations. This role directs daily operations and coordinates facility activities to ensure safe and compliant operations. The Operations Manager will ensure the overall safety and security of operations and that deployed functions (e.g., ESH&Q, Engineering, Maintenance) are accountable for their performance in support of operations in their respective areas of responsibility.
The position provides oversight during shutdowns, upgrades, and production and offers technical expertise during accelerator maintenance outages. The Operations Manager strives to provide extraordinary customer service to facility tenants, programmatic operations, and other customers within assigned facilities.
Core
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain operation of facilities within the established Accelerator Safety Envelope (ASE) and Safety Assessment Document (SAD).
- Provide oversight necessary to assure compliance with safety and security policies, environmental requirements, and other applicable DOE/governmental orders.
- Support Conduct of Operations and Conduct of Maintenance and Engineering processes as they pertain to accelerator operations.
- Provide oversight and technical guidance during experimental operations and maintenance.
- Provide support for facility related issues, including coordination of maintenance, programmatic activities, and communication with facility tenants.
- Provide support for facility/system operating conditions to include configuration management and control.
- Serve as a resource in the operation and monitoring of facility systems that support accelerator operations.
- Support, coordinate, and ensure compliance with Operations process for planning, activity review, and progress tracking.
- Participate in the LANSCE-FO Duty Officer program and serve on rotation as a Duty Officer. Ability to respond to abnormal and emergency events during off-shift hours.
What You Need
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to provide operations supervisory oversight, including technical direction, program execution, and sound business judgment.
- Ability to function as a member of a division-level management team; to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel; and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts.
- Ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Ability to utilize and manipulate a computerized work management system in maintaining and tracking project activities.
- Knowledge of Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance, and Conduct of Engineering programs.
- Knowledge of operational management including systems, engineering design and maintenance, transportation regulations, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, facility control systems, major construction projects, and upgrades and renovations as assigned.
- Ability to identify problem areas, investigating solutions, and determining action to be performed.
- Knowledge of work planning and control, including hazard identification, hazard analysis, and implementing controls using the hierarchy of controls for a wide range of complex and hazardous activities.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills to include presentations and report writing.
- Ability to gain cooperation of others and conduct presentations of technical and/or function-specific information concerning specific projects or schedules.
Education/
Experience:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree and three years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Experience dealing with organizations deployed to the FOD (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.).
- Experience in nuclear material management. Familiarity with working with accountable nuclear materials.
- Ability to oversee accelerator operations and safety basis program implementation.
