What You Will Do
Come join the best and brightest minds in the world at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to our country and the world.
The Information Systems and Modeling group (A-1) is looking for outstanding candidates to support projects focused on solving emerging and challenging problems in the areas of optimization and control of critical infrastructures, with emphasis on electric power transmission, distribution, and microgrids. The candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary environment in the areas of electrical engineering, operations research, software development, applied mathematics, and computer science.
This position is part of LANL’s Advanced Network Science Initiative (ANSI). ANSI performs basic and applied research focused on modeling and understanding the nation's critical infrastructures, such as electric power and natural gas. Our expertise covers statistics, stochastic methods, machine learning, control theory, dynamical systems, discrete and continuous optimization, statistical physics, and graphical modeling. We ensure the scientific and technological validity of our approaches by working closely with physicists, engineers, mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, and economists through interdisciplinary collaborations.
Our typical customers include DHS, DOE, DOD, and other national laboratories. Our work typically requires close collaborations within and outside the Laboratory. More details on ANSI can be found at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..
We are expecting to hire 1 Postdoctoral Research Associate. Candidates are expected to conduct research in an area relevant to projects under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Microgrid R&D program, e.g., projects related to phase unbalanced microgrid modeling, control and optimization of transmission and distribution networks under uncertainty, design of resilient networks, and/or analysis of interdependent networks.
