What You Will DoField Engineer Technologist 1 is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the approved project documents. This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to and as‑built configurations are verified. Field engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures.
The level 1 Field Engineer Technologist requires a basic understanding of field engineering principles and an aptitude to apply these principles in the execution of the job. The level 2 Field Engineer Technologist requires a demonstrated understanding of field engineering principles and has applied these principles in a professional environment. The selected candidate will support our Install team.
- Ensure technical compliance with approved project documents.
- Provide input during scoping, design, execution and project closeout.
- Identify issues, coordinate technical solutions and provide guidance to constructors.
- Conduct field verifications to enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
- Work collaboratively with design engineers and constructors to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic construction engineering principles.
- Aptitude in reading and understanding engineering design documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure completeness and constructability.
- Ability to communicate engineering solutions verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.
- Aptitude for conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
- Aptitude for collaborative problem solving to resolve nuclear facility and infrastructure engineering issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction engineering principles.
- Demonstrated expertise in reading and understanding engineering design documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting construction industry specifications, construction means and methods, and national construction codes and standards.
- Demonstrated proficiency in conducting field verifications of construction work.
- Demonstrated proficiency in collaborative problem solving.
- Level 1:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related field and 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Level 2:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related field and 5 years related experience; or equivalent combination.
- Design and/or construction experience in nuclear, accelerator, laboratory, or industrial facility operations.
- Fundamental knowledge of engineering and construction techniques and technologies.
- Experience with design and/or installation of facility and infrastructure systems.
- Awareness of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and criteria.
- Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering.
- Ability to review material take‑offs against project documents to ensure compliance.
Onsite in Los Alamos, NM.
Position CommitmentRegular appointment employees required to serve a continuous period in their current position. Position commitment is 1 year.
Shift WorkThis position is 24/7 coverage with shift/weekend schedule. Shift differential may apply.
Physical RequirementsGeneral Physical Mobility: standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending. Specific Physical Mobility: use of both hands, arms, legs and feet, carry/lift up to 20 pounds.
