Overview

We are seeking a Construction Manager (CM-2) who brings strong field execution experience and is ready to take on increasing leadership responsibility. This role is ideal for a construction professional with solid technical knowledge who is developing advanced project leadership capability.
WhatYou Will Do
As a Manager Construction 2, you will support the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects—ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient field performance under general direction.
- Project Execution & Field Oversight:
Coordinate day-to-day construction field activities; review estimates, schedules, drawings, and specifications for constructability; monitor subcontractor and craft performance to ensure adherence to scope, quality, and safety requirements; identify field issues and escalate complex concerns appropriately; enforce safety and security requirements; stop work when necessary. - Coordination &
Collaboration:
Work closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Controls to support project objectives; assist in tracking schedule progress and cost impacts; participate in planning meetings and provide field input to support execution strategies. - Performance & Compliance:
Ensure field procedures are implemented correctly; support documentation, reporting, and compliance with applicable DOE and LANL standards; promote safe work practices and adherence to quality expectations.
- Working knowledge of construction practices, subcontract management, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Experience supporting moderately complex construction projects.
- Ability to identify construction issues and assist in developing practical solutions.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work across disciplines.
- Ability to communicate clearly with craft personnel, subcontractors, and internal partners.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field, plus 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in industrial, federal, or highly regulated construction environments preferred.
- Must be able to meet DOE O 426.2 requirements.
DOE Order 426.2 A: Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science, and nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis.
Desired Qualifications- Experience working on DOE or federal construction projects.
- Familiarity with nuclear or high-hazard facility construction.
- Experience coordinating union craft or subcontracted field labor.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM USA. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Environment &
Essential Functions:
On-site construction environment; indoor/outdoor.
Physical requirements: May include walking, stair climbing, kneeling, and balancing.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
Note to Applicants: This position is for a Term appointment. A full-time employee hired for a period of up to a maximum of 10 years.
