Position: Shift Operations Supervisor (Manufacturing Manager 1)

What You Will Do

Reporting to the CMR Shift Operations Manager, you will supervise and oversee the day-to-day activities at the Chemistry & Metallurgy Research Facility (CMR). The CMR facility is a nuclear research facility comprised of multiple resident groups performing various functions required for nuclear operations.

As the technical interface between the resident and operations groups, you are responsible for communicating and enforcing facility-specific and laboratory policies on safety and compliance.

The primary place of duty for the SOS is the Operations Center, the controlling station for all activities in the facility. When not on duty in the Operations Center, the SOS will monitor evolutions for compliance and make reports to management, conduct facility health walk-downs, and assist in developing and revising facility documents.

A minimum of ten percent of your time will be spent observing, evaluating, and documenting activities or conditions within the facility perimeter.

What You Need Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Supervisory experience in a facility/plant operations environment.
  • Familiarity with acting as a Leader during abnormal or emergency events.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending actions.
  • Prior experience with formal work practices and lockout/tagout programs.
  • Ability to become familiar with facility systems and processes based on previous experience.
  • Demonstrated performance in an environment requiring high attention to detail and diligent work practices commensurate with a high-hazard facility/plant.
  • Experience with formal qualification processes for technical roles and the ability to qualify as SOS within six months.

Education/

Experience:

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years of Nuclear Experience. Full‑time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, and vocational programs) may be substituted on a one‑for‑one basis for up to two years of nuclear experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with the development or revision of technical procedures.
  • Familiar with nuclear research facility Safety Basis and Technical Safety Requirements.
  • Prior work under the Conduct of Operations policy at LANL or other DOE/DOD facilities.
  • DOE Q clearance.
Work Environment

CMR is an older facility. While this job will primarily take place in the Operations Center inside the building, you may also need to work outdoors, in confined spaces, at heights, in cold environments, alone, on irregular or rotating shifts, and in noisy positions. Work may require protective gear such as headgear, safety glasses, face shield, hearing protection, safety shoes, or protective foot gear.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs. The commitment for this position is 1 year.
