Position: Logistics Superintendent 1/2

Overview

The Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a superintendent to oversee sophisticated electrical and mechanical facilities and systems. Superintendents are challenged to drive continuous improvement, deliver high‑quality work on schedule, minimize costs, and maximize mission‑critical capabilities.

Responsibilities

As a Logistics Superintendent, you will work closely with Facilities Management, Engineering, Planning, Project Management, Material Procurement, and Union cloth personnel on preventative, corrective and modification work. Responsibilities include maintaining safety and security training, ensuring compliance, and stopping work if unsafe or security‑compromising.

Superintendent 1 ($85,900 – $139,900)

Oversee maintenance and repairs of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting and other building systems. Organize and oversee schedules and work of maintenance staff.

Superintendent 2 ($94,500 – $154,600)

Plan and supervise facility system maintenance, corrective maintenance and minor modifications. Issue daily work assignments, monitor progress, and confirm completion.

Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Ability to execute maintenance work activities, including systems, upgrades and renovations.
  • Understanding and interpreting physical, mechanical, electrical documents, specifications, drawings and schematics.
  • Identifying problem areas, investigating alternatives and determining actions.
  • Basic understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration and lock‑out/tag‑out procedures.
  • Experience multitasking, customer service and conflict management.

Job Requirements for Superintendent 2
  • Experience directing multi‑discipline craft on maintenance, modification or construction projects.
  • Proficiency interpreting mechanical and electrical documents, specifications, drawings and schematics.
  • Understanding of workplace hazards and implementing safety policies.
  • Experience reviewing project plans, coordinating with team members to develop cost estimates and execution schedules.
  • Ability to track projects through all stages and provide updates.
  • Ability to identify risk areas that could impact projects and perform trend analysis for improvement.
  • Knowledge of lock‑out/tag‑out process.
Education & Experience

Lower level: 5 years of relevant experience.

Higher level:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience directing work and understanding of union bargaining agreements.
  • Knowledge of hazardous facility operations.
  • Knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Experience with a computerized work‑management system.
  • Familiarity with medium, distribution and transmission voltage work.
  • Familiarity with OSHA  Transmission and Distribution.
  • Familiarity with NESC.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E.

Work Environment
  • Working overtime or irregular schedule.
  • Working off‑shift/rotating schedule.
  • Hot environment (90‑100 °F).
  • Dry environment.
  • Operation of motor vehicles.
  • Noisy environment.
  • Near electrical power supplies, ionizing radiation, vibrating equipment, machinery with moving parts.
  • Headgear or head protection, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety shoes.
Work Schedule

May require 24/7 coverage, including shifts and weekends. Shift/differential pay may be available. Shift assignments at manager’s discretion.

Work Location

On‑site in Los Alamos, NM. All locations at management discretion.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees must serve at least one year continuous service to be eligible for posted jobs.
