Laborer, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor, Heavy Equipment Operator

Nidy Sports Construction is seeking a skilled and dependable Asphalt Screed Operator (Screw Worker) to join our paving crew. This role is responsible for operating and adjusting the screed to ensure accurate placement, leveling, and finishing of hot mix asphalt. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and experienced in producing smooth, uniform surfaces that meet project specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and adjust the asphalt paver screed (screw) to control material flow, depth, and crown.
• Monitor asphalt distribution to maintain consistent grade, slope, and surface texture.
• Work closely with the paver operator and foreman to ensure proper alignment and surface quality.
• Check and maintain proper temperature and material consistency throughout paving operations.
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic maintenance on screed components and related equipment.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and jobsite protocols.
• Assist with site preparation, traffic control, and general labor duties as needed.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions, hazards, or safety concerns immediately.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in asphalt paving or road construction preferred.
• Knowledge of asphalt paving equipment, especially screed/screw operations.
• Knowledge in Asphalt Raking/Shovel/Handtamp/Walk behind Tamp.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a coordinated crew.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and high-heat environments.
• Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Valid driver's license preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, stretching, and kneeling.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions.

You must have a valid non-restrictive Florida Drivers License, be able to pass a drug and alcohol screening, undergo a pre employment background check, and be able to withstand working in the sun and heat.
