Peace Health is seeking a Security Officer - Security Parking for a full‑time, 1.00 FTE, variable position. Salary range: $22.65 – $33.97. Hiring rate depends on education, training, experience, collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Job SummaryThe Security Officer is responsible for providing safety and security services, interacting with patients, visitors, caregivers, clinicians, and local law‑enforcement agencies. Duties include internal and external security patrol of assigned hospitals/clinics, dispatch, and access control.
Essential Functions- Provide safety and security services: patrol grounds, parking lots, buildings; secure entryways and exits; address conduct issues, policy violations; inspect for property damage, safety issues; respond to all codes; assist with out‑of‑control patients; use electronic checkpoints.
- Stand‑by or escort services for protection of caregivers or patients as needed.
- Courtesy services: directions, locksmith functions, jump‑starts, flat‑tire changes, reporting vehicles, assisting families during crises.
- Non‑violent crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques.
- Crowd control during events with influx of patients/visitors.
- Coordinate with external safety and law‑enforcement agencies.
- Respond to all emergency situations and apply appropriate protocols for Code, Disaster, ETO Exposure, Fire, Flood, Hazardous spills, and all code situations.
- Assist flight crew and ground crew with Life Flight/Airlift NW transports and securing landing pad.
- Ensure adherence to protocols; file reports; monitor visitor permits; maintain building access control with computerized badge/door system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma (Preferred) or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years military or civilian security or law‑enforcement experience (Required).
- Healthcare facility security experience (Preferred).
- Complete CPI/De‑escalation training within 180 days of employment (Required).
- Complete IAHSS – Basic within 180 days (Required).
- Driver's License (Required).
- Basic Life Support upon hire (Required).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Required).
- Plan‑of‑action formulation, crisis intervention, and de‑escalation skills (Required).
- Data entry ability (Required).
- Good physical condition to walk, run, and lift as needed (Required).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel (Required).
- Acceptable driving record per Peace Health Motor Vehicle Safety Policy (Required).
If assigned location requires the use of tasers, successfully pass the Taser Training Program. After completion, officers must carry the taser while on duty. System Support Services – Public Safety Security. BLS not required.
Working Conditions- Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment.
- Child Care Attendant: move around area, occasional sitting; lift/carry up to 25 lbs; push/pull up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending/kneeling/squatting/stooping/reaching/grasping.
- Security: continuous movement; lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs frequently; occasional up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, airborne particles.
- Exposure to outside temperatures (seasonal).
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Security: time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
