Armed Security Officer

This is a uniformed security position within a healthcare environment. The Armed Security Officer serves as a visible deterrent to criminal activity and is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, facilities, and assets.

The role includes patrolling assigned buildings and grounds, responding to emergency codes and disaster events, conducting preliminary incident investigations, and supporting overall facility safety operations. Flexibility in scheduling is required, including the ability to rotate between facilities and travel when necessary. Approved uniforms must be worn in accordance with established dress code standards.

• Conduct routine and frequent patrols of assigned facilities and grounds.
• Serve as a visible security presence to deter criminal activity.
• Respond promptly to emergency codes, incidents, and service requests.
• Prepare clear, factual, and timely incident reports (completed before shift end).
• Enforce facility policies, procedures, and applicable state and local laws.
• Monitor and operate CCTV (NVR), dispatch systems, paging systems, and security communication equipment.
• Assist staff in managing combative or disruptive individuals using approved de-escalation and defensive tactics techniques.
• Control and enforce facility parking regulations, including issuing warnings or coordinating towing/booting when necessary.
• Secure, document, and return lost and found items and valuables according to policy.
• Identify and report safety hazards during patrol rounds.
• Generate daily electronic activity reports and correspondence using standard computer systems.
• Maintain professional written and verbal communication at all times.
• Remain mentally alert and capable of making immediate, sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Frequent exposure to emotionally charged or aggressive situations.
• Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., fires, chemical spills, flooding).
• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
• Extended periods of walking, standing, stooping, and lifting.
• Must be physically capable of patrolling all areas, restraining individuals when necessary, and assisting staff with lifting tasks when required.

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum two (2) years of armed security experience (honorable military service may be considered in lieu of experience).
• Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
• Healthcare security experience preferred.

• Verbal De-escalation training (within 60 days of hire).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (within 60 days of hire).
• Firearms training, qualification, retention, expandable baton, and defensive tactics training prior to authorization to carry.
• Successful completion of required pre-employment and post-offer psychological and fitness assessments.
• Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Must be able to pass background screening and random drug testing.
• Must meet all applicable state armed security licensing requirements.
