- Leads with a positive attitude toward policies pertaining to safety, and regularly works to foster a safe work environment.
- Responsible for all aspects of safety on the job site including but not limited to safety incidents, safety equipment, and safety precautions.
- Reviews, understands, and implements construction project documents such as contracts, plans, specifications, drawings, job layout, and as‑builts.
- Assists in the determination of manpower and personnel hiring.
- Determines equipment needs, equipment maintenance, tool, and material requirements.
- Timely and accurately maintains and keeps current construction documents; change orders, schedules, purchase orders, RFIs, submittals, daily diaries, and quantity books.
- Reads blueprints, construction contracts, subcontracts, and other construction documents, plans and specifications.
- Initiates and maintains business relationships — including working effectively with owners, engineers, co‑workers, subcontractors, suppliers, and the public.
- Inspects and verifies the receipt or shipment of materials to and from the job site.
- Determines sequencing of work, maintains a 3‑week schedule.
- Manages field labor and provides field training.
- Identifies long‑lead items that need to be expedited through the project schedule process.
- Identifies problems early and acts immediately to provide solutions.
- Oversees the work to ensure installation is in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documents and maintains quality control for work performed by employees and subcontractors (QA/QC compliance).
- Minimum 5 years direct experience performing heavy civil construction work.
- Solid understanding of construction means and methods including costs, scheduling and quality control.
- Superior knowledge of construction drawings and specifications.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to anticipate problems and participate in solutions.
- Effective listener with the ability to understand the needs of employees, and both internal and external clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build, manage and motivate effective teams.
- Self‑motivated, deadline driven and highly organized.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee up to and over 2/3 of time employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Some equipment can be extremely heavy and will require a lot of strength to move or manipulate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.
