Hiring Range: TST I $29.29 – $32.55 per hour; TST II $32.41 – $36.01 per hour

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm with rotating on‑call duties including holidays, after‑hours emergency call‑backs, and occasional weekends or nights.

Under overall supervision of the Transportation Engineering Administrator, this position maintains proper operation of the city’s traffic signal system and related infrastructure.

• Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on signalized intersections, opticom system, school flashers, and other traffic control devices.
• Respond to emergencies and perform repairs related to traffic signals, school flashers, driver feedback signs, and other traffic control devices.
• Test, troubleshoot, and repair the Opticom, Conflict Monitor / MMU, BIU, and other components of traffic signal/control systems in the shop.
• Test, program, install, and calibrate equipment for traffic signals, school flashers, and other traffic control devices.
• Inspect traffic signal equipment at intersections, inventory equipment, create field drawings, and compile records and reports.
• Assist Senior Signal Technician with updating specifications and approved materials for installations.
• Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
• Inspect contractor work on traffic signals and related devices.
• Maintain communication between field equipment and traffic signal software/computers; coordinate repairs.
• Establish a safe work zone for maintenance, upgrades, and emergency repair.
• Assist in maintaining inventory levels of parts and equipment.
• Coordinate with City departments, outside agencies, the public, and contractors.
• Demonstrate integrity, fiscal responsibility, and professionalism.

• Include all duties required of a Traffic Signal Technician I.
• Monitor and evaluate operational performance of signal system programs and equipment.
• Assist in preparing work cost estimates, annual operating budget and work plans.
• Assist in developing standard operating and safety procedures.

Work is performed in office, shop, and field environments, construction sites, and on roadways under heavy traffic conditions. Tasks require continuous detailed work, multiple concurrent tasks, working at heights of 10‑35 feet, bending, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, reaching, exposure to electrical energy, intermittent traffic noise, moving vehicles, inclement weather, daylight and nighttime, extreme temperatures, and slippery surfaces. Visual and physical capabilities to use computers, operate vehicles and equipment, and distinguish colors and sounds are required.

Cell phone carrying, emergency response after hours, overtime, flexible time, and on‑call schedules may be required.

• One or more years of experience in maintenance and repair of traffic signal components and systems, or comparable electrical, communications, or field technologies.
• Operational experience with general maintenance and construction materials and equipment.

• At least four years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance, repair, and installation of traffic signal components, systems, testing, and complex troubleshooting.

• Ability to meet physical requirements necessary to perform the job.
• Possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license.
• Within 6 months of hire, residence within a 45‑minute drive time to Longmont to respond to after‑hours on‑call emergencies.
• IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Certification required within 6 months of hire;
