Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm Remote and schedule flexibility with supervisor approval. Frequent after-hours work is required to attend evening and weekend community and related meetings.

Definition

This position provides direct services to all Longmont neighborhoods to enhance quality of life and support a holistic approach to sustainable community development by implementing programming dedicated to capacity building for resiliency and self-sufficiency at a neighborhood scale. In collaboration with the Sustainability Office and the Community and Neighborhood Resources Department, this position will foster relationships between residents, community members, and other City staff to identify and address neighborhood needs.

This position will support asset-based community development strategies in neighborhoods to create and strengthen partnerships to improve municipal service delivery. This is a professional position that requires significant interpersonal skills and the ability to foster trust, collaboration, and inclusion.

  • Community Engagement & Sustainable Development: Support and collaborate with neighborhood-based community groups to identify needs, strengthen community identity, and enhance quality of life through sustainable practices. Facilitate leadership development, provide technical assistance, and guide residents in organizing activities and projects that promote long-term community resiliency, self-sufficiency, and climate adaptability.
  • Strategic Planning & Consensus Building: Facilitates community meetings to assess needs and develop solutions. Foster community-led assessments and improvement projects focused on efficient infrastructure and resource use, and emergency preparedness, particularly in response to extreme temperature and weather-related events.
  • Education & Capacity Building: Facilitate educational opportunities on community organizing, sustainable neighborhood planning, and climate resilience. Develop and maintain a library of resources, including toolkits and case studies, to empower residents and enhance neighborhood capacity for resiliency and self-sufficiency.
  • Communication & Resource Management: Maintain and facilitate the efficient use of tools and resources for neighborhood communication, including online portals, email, and in-person outreach, to increase community engagement and resource sharing. Foster cross-neighborhood collaboration and strengthen partnerships with city departments, schools, businesses, and civic organizations to support community-led initiatives.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare reports to document progress, highlight successful projects, and share best practices.
  • Cultural Competency & Teamwork: Provide culturally appropriate services to diverse communities while modeling collaboration, teamwork, and organizational values in all interactions. Encourage inclusive practices that support sustainable community development for all.
  • Conflict Resolution: Experience in conflict resolution and mediation, including identifying root causes of disputes, actively listening to all parties, and implementing strategic solutions to resolve issues diplomatically; skilled in maintaining professionalism under pressure, promoting open communication, and fostering a respectful, collaborative environment.
  • Language Access: Provide bilingual information and/or access to bilingual services for residents, City departments and other appropriate community entities as appropriate to assisting in resolution of conflict, communication, system navigation or engagement.

Work is generally performed in both a standard office environment and in community-based settings requiring local travel. Work requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment, audiovisual equipment, and to operate a passenger vehicle for on a regular basis. Work requires continuous verbal and written communication, problem-solving and reasoning, reading and customer/resident contact in person and via telephone.

Work requires working alone to complete tasks and working closely with others to coordinate and facilitate meetings and services. Frequent after-hours work is required to attend evening and weekend community and related meetings.
