Overview

Senior Director of R&D and Commercial Development - Electronics - Longmont, CO. Responsible for assessing and creating Matheson’s electronics marketing plan and strategy, planning, coordinating and directing marketing and new business development efforts. Requires excellent knowledge of Matheson capabilities, and customer processes, issues and demands mainly in semiconductors; identifies business strategy, direction, and new products or solutions to customer requirements. Oversees the technological direction of the Electronics division, ensuring that technology resources align with business goals and drive innovation.

Conducts competitor research to identify products and services that provide a differentiating competitive advantage and lead to highly profitable products.

This role safely formulates, directs, and coordinates all research and development programs, introduces new products and processes into overall company strategy, and recommends improvements and cost reductions for existing products and processes. It oversees dissemination of R&D results to company units, other organizations, and managers; oversees all personnel, budget, and reporting functions of the R&D department. The position directs R&D of existing and new technologies and products to meet current and future customer/market needs, including materials science, corrosion mitigation, packaging, purification, storage and delivery technologies.

It evaluates and establishes new collaborations with key partners while minimizing resources through cost and people sharing. It also manages all aspects of the IP portfolio for MATHESON, including lab notebooks, invention memos, patent applications, patent prosecution, and opinions of non-infringement. Training of scientists and staff in non-disclosure agreements, trade secrets, and patents is required. Finally, it requires development and execution of idea and innovations programs to identify and implement new ideas related to products, technologies, and cost savings/Six Sigma projects throughout the company.

• Develop Matheson’s Technology Strategy by identifying and implementing business and product strategies that meet customer needs and match Matheson’s capabilities to provide the product or service with safety and high quality.
• Provide technical and business leadership by leading and managing technical teams and commercial personnel while fostering collaboration and innovation.
• Manage, maintain and grow the R&D efforts by staying abreast of industry needs, emerging technology and trends; conduct research to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in gases and other molecules, equipment, purification, and services for the semiconductor industry.
• Understand and manage Matheson’s technology infrastructure; ensure it is scalable, secure, reliable, and operable safely. Ensure compliance with regulations and maintain safety as a top priority in the workforce culture.
• Communicate with senior executives to outline business opportunities, risks, and unknowns. Articulate the technology vision and strategy and use internal and external resources to achieve technical and commercial goals.
• Construct revenue and expense budgets for both the UHP equipment business and the R&D group. Allocate and adjust resources to meet budgets.

• Provide tactical and strategic direction for development of new processes, new products, and new technology in materials science, corrosion mitigation, packaging, purification, storage and delivery technologies within MATHESON and holding company.
• Generate ideas and improvements for technology and new products; define key information or data required for product development or problem solving.
• Develop project plans, timelines, staff, and capex budgets.
• Perform safety and hazard reviews/evaluations and evaluate abatement requirements for experiments.
• Ensure projects are adequately staffed and resourced.
• Prioritize R&D project work and select personnel to maximize outputs and ensure timelines are met.
