Summary

The Manager, Systems Engineering leads the systems engineering function while remaining hands ‑ on in the design, integration, and delivery of complex hardware and software products. This role combines technical ownership, cross ‑ disciplinary systems thinking, and people leadership to ensure products are delivered with high quality, reliability, and clarity of intent.

The manager actively contributes to system architecture, requirements, and integration work while coaching the team, setting technical direction, and removing obstacles. This is a highly collaborative role at the center of hardware, firmware, software, sales, manufacturing, and product management.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and coach the Systems Engineering team responsible for the development and supporting products and platforms.
  • Capture & analyze requirements from customers, regulatory bodies, & internal stakeholders.
  • Work with sales and product management to assess feasibility, strategic fit, & project scope of new applications/products.
  • Translate high-level needs into system‑level specifications & requirements that guide design decisions.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, design elements, and verification activities.
  • Define the system architecture (hardware, software, interfaces, data flows).
  • Ensure subsystems work together seamlessly by managing interfaces and dependencies.
  • Identify technical and programmatic risks early in the design process and assess tradeoffs.
  • Complete the initial project risk assessments.
  • Develop mitigation strategies to reduce risks impact on schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Coordinate integration activities across hardware, software, and other components.
  • Plan and oversee system‑level testing to confirm the product meets requirements.
  • Develop and own the test validation matrix.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and certifications.
  • Product certification & regulatory requirements (Safety, EMC, Environmental).
  • Act as a bridge between disciplines (mechanical, electrical, & software).
  • Facilitate design reviews and ensure alignment across teams.
  • Generate specifications table & Specifying Engineer Spec.
  • Set and track KPIs and team goals related to requirements stability and completeness, integration effectiveness, architecture scalability, and defect escapes.
  • Conduct performance reviews and appraisals to evaluate team members' performance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical field.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in systems engineering or product engineering for hardware/software products.
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership or management role.
  • Strong background in system architecture, requirements management, and integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and execute in complex technical environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong focus on product quality and processes.
  • Excellent problem solving, time management, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and systems‑level thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.
  • Customer and reliability focused mindset.
  • Strong prioritization and decision‑making skills.

Location: This position is located on‑site in Longmont, CO.

Base Compensation: $170,000 - $190,000 is the projected range of annual base salary for this role depending on the candidate’s overall qualifications and experience.
