Job SummaryThe Memory Care Aide assists the Memory Care Assistant Director in providing a holistic, therapeutic, person-centered Memory Care Program on the Memory Care Unit. The role focuses on achieving and maintaining the highest quality of life for residents with dementia, engaging them in evidence-based, therapeutic activities daily.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of healthcare experience, including volunteering.
- Minimum of three months experience working with persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
- Sincere desire to work with the memory care population.
- Ability to effectively communicate the Memory Care Program to community members, professionals, families, and residents.
- Confidence and knowledge to work effectively with dementia patients.
- Willingness to learn about dementia and apply therapeutic approaches.
- Ability to make independent decisions prioritizing residents' best interests.
- Empathy, compassion, enthusiasm, and good humor.
- Ability to manage emotional aspects of dementia care.
- Knowledge of effective memory care programming.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive the Alden bus.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Mobility throughout the workday.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with residents and staff.
- Good health status.
- Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset individuals.
- Capacity to handle emotional complexities related to dementia and end-of-life care.
- Ability to lift equipment, supplies, and occasionally move furniture.
- Awareness of exposure to infectious diseases and waste.
- Continued professional growth in dementia care.
- Minimum 12 hours of ongoing education annually, including orientation and dementia-specific training.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to develop holistic, person-centered care plans.
- Facilitate communication needs and educate residents, families, and staff.
- Develop detailed knowledge of each resident’s background, needs, and preferences.
- Implement therapeutic, person-centered activity programs, including group and individual activities.
- Complete necessary documentation and encourage family involvement.
- Participate in family meetings and follow up on concerns.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment.
- Assist with symptom management and non-pharmacological interventions.
- Contribute to accident and incident analyses and prevention strategies.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Provide feedback to improve program effectiveness.
- Adapt to residents’ changing needs and provide emotional support.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
