The job of Elementary School Teacher was established to facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues; and responding to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

Essential Functions- Administers and develops subject-specific assessments for evaluating student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Assess student progress toward learning targets, objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Demonstrate and differentiate teaching methods to address individual student requirements.
- Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to support classroom programs and individual student needs.
- Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitor students in various educational environments to ensure safety and positivity.
- Participate in meetings and professional development activities to improve student achievement.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth through reading, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework.
- Prepare written materials such as grades, lesson plans, correspondence with parents, examinations, quizzes, attendance records, and anecdotal reports.
- Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance use, harassment, zero-tolerance offenses) to maintain safety and comply with state law and board policies.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, students, and central office staff to resolve issues and provide information.
- Support other classroom teachers in implementing the curriculum and individual student plans.
- Other responsibilities assigned by administration.
Requires prolonged standing, moving around the classroom, occasional stooping, bending, and reaching; may involve noisy and crowded environments.
QualificationsB.S. in a job-related area, Mississippi “A” certification or higher with endorsement in the teaching area, knowledge of teaching methods, fair and consistent application of standards.
