Duties
The Deputy Chief Nurse provides continued evaluation of existing programs within the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) program. This position proposes necessary changes to programs at the direction of the Chief Nurse, initiates new programs in furtherance of goals and performance measures. This position provides accountability and coordination of regulatory and environmental surveys. Works closely with Nurse Managers and Chief Nurse on personnel actions including feedback and counseling for nursing staff, service recovery activities, and consults on hiring procedures.
In addition to responding and expanding the nursing staff to meet Directive requirements, the SCI program itself also continues to grow. With the emergence of COVID-19, areas of SCI that remain unchanged over the years, now require program enhancements and/or reorganization to meet patient care and safety needs. For example, the Deputy Chief Nurse will oversee the nurse educators and develop sustainable plans for training personnel onboarding and throughout their career at SCI as well as develop short and long-term plans to reduce hospital acquired infections.
This position also allows managers to focus on their duties and not pulled to cover additional duties in the Chief's absence. This position will fill any gaps to clinical oversight needs for SCI.
Minimum 3-5 yrs RN management experience on an inpatient Spinal Cord Injury and Disease and/or rehabilitation unit. BSN and MSN. Desired Certification in the applicable field.
