Lead CNC Machinist - C Shift

The Lead Machinist position will be based out of Rocket Lab's headquarters in Long Beach, CA. This person will report to the Fabrication Supervisor and develop a high performing team that is responsible for the machining and fabrication of a wide variety parts to support multiple programs across Rocket Lab. You will interface with critical teams including Supply Chain, CNC Programming, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Design, and Propulsion.

Your team will be responsible for Electron, Rutherford, Neutron, Archimedes, and Space Systems fabrication.

• Responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of various CNC equipment.
• Lead a team of talented machinist through development and production activities in order to deliver rocket and satellite components.
• Allocated resources to ensure delivery schedules are met for various production and R&D programs.
• Collaborate heavily with Rocket Lab engineering teams to ensure the highest quality of parts are being manufactured and delivered.

• 12+ years of professional machine shop experience.
• Ability to setup jobs on both CNC Mills and Lathes.
• Ability to edit CNC programs.
• Experience machining wide variety of materials.
• Experience successfully leading a team in a fast‑paced flexible environment running 5+ machines.
• Excellent GD&T and blueprint familiarity coupled with inspection knowledge.

• Experience programming in NX from CAD or drawings.
• Experience working with casting and/or 3‑D printed materials.
• NLX‑2500‑4000 & DMU‑50‑125 experience.

• Willing to work C Shift (Friday – Sunday 5:30am - 3:30pm or 2:30pm - 1:00am)
• Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
• Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods – 8 hours min.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. unassisted.
• Must be able to move repetitively, bend or twist, and use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.
