Hours

full time 36.25 hours (Varies shifts, Day, Swing, & Graveyard) Works on weekends and holidays depending on work schedule.

Provide shift supervision and support under the direction of Program Director of Peer Respite Services

Summary

Assists the Director of Peer Respite Services with managing all aspects of PRPSN Respite Programs in a smooth, effective and sustainable manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This is not an exhaustive task list, and other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate or necessary by the Director of Peer Respite Services. Work activities may include any or all the following:

  • Under the direction of the Program Director of Peer Respite Services, provides ongoing support to staff on assigned shifts including feedback, guidance and professional development.
  • Assists Program Director of Peer Respite Services in making sure all shifts at both Peer Respite Houses are covered by two staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Assists Program Director of Peer Respite Services in completion of all recordkeeping and outcome measures required by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.
  • Provides supportive assistance to, and the modeling of self-advocacy with the guests to help him/her obtain and keep housing, health care benefits, SSI entitlements and access to community resources.
  • Provides bridging services to guests in transition from or to other programs including community residence or hospitals. Empower guests by building awareness of specialty services including health, mental health, housing and substance use.
  • Provides hands‑on “life coaching” to train, mentor, and support guests with the acquisition of basic skills in activities of daily living (hygiene, meal preparation, home care, medication management, other self‑care, public transportation access/travel training, etc.).
  • Works actively with the team members to develop strategies for outreach to guests who tend to isolate themselves.
  • Participates with the team members to assist guest with the development of their Wellness Service Plan(s), especially those plans that will contain involvement with a peer‑support or self‑help linkage component.
  • Researches, develops, plans, coordinates and/or offers structured workshops, peer support and self‑help groups, wellness activities, employment or education support activities, recreation activities and/or social outings that reflect the guests needs, interests and desires. Works with staff to conceptualize and develop peer‑run groups. Coaches and supports peer guests to research, offer, plan and lead these activities for themselves and others.
  • Works with group facilitators to document group outcomes and alignment with the 8 Dimensions of Wellness, including skills taught for resilience, hope, and recovery.
  • Contribute to and supports a culturally diverse and sensitive environment. Maintains an open and cooperative approach. Provides an environment of acceptance that supports and respects people of different gender, ethnicities, cultural values, sexual orientation, race, language, religion, age, disability, family composition and socio‑economic status.
  • Maintains a clean, positive and supportive work environment and a general spirit of cooperation. Is a team player who maintains effective working relationships and communicates clearly in a respectful and professional manner with staff, guests and outside agencies.
  • Works cooperatively with others to assure the smooth and seamless delivery of comprehensive services to guests, attends required trainings and meetings and participates actively in the community life of the worksite.
