SpaceSystems Team
Our Space Systems team builds everything from complete spacecraft, precision payloads, and components like solar panels, flight software, star trackers, optical systems, separation systems, radios, and more. We have enabled more than 1,700 missions, ranging from interplanetary exploration to in‑space manufacturing to national security and defense initiatives. The team has built spacecraft, payloads, and components for missions to the Moon and Mars, working with partners such as NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force.
AvionicsAutomation Test Engineer I/I
We’re currently seeking an Avionics Automation Test Engineer for our global headquarters in Long Beach, CA. This role is responsible for automating and improving testing efficiency of both individual avionics and completed satellites by writing scripts and drivers to interact with hardware and software services.
Responsibilities- Develop automated testing software for hardware in support of test programs.
- Work with our global team to develop and improve hardware testing through software tools.
- Collaborate with hardware design engineers to develop efficient testing strategies for acceptance and qualification test programs.
- Support design and development of space flight hardware to increase testability and manufacturability.
- Support and improve manufacturing and production software tools.
- Contribute to development of engineering and business processes, including engineering and test processes, to support Rocket Lab growth.
- Contribute to development of engineering best practices such as test, design for manufacture and engineering change.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical discipline.
- 2+ years of programming experience in Python for mid- or large-scale applications.
- 2+ years of experience with electronics test engineering, spacecraft systems engineering, or hardware development.
- Experience with software development on a Linux platform.
- Understanding of electrical test equipment, test procedures, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation.
- U.S. citizenship required due to program requirements.
- Master’s or Ph.D. in engineering (software, computer, electrical, aerospace, mechanical, or other technical discipline).
- Understanding of satellite subsystems and how they interact with the vehicle.
- Experience with communication protocols (TCP/UDP, serial communication, etc.).
- Experience with software unit testing (e.g., pytest or Robot Framework).
- Experience in a hardware or spacecraft production environment.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, focus.
- Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard, communicate verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to commute to buildings.
- Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, and moderate noise levels.
Base salary USD 85,000 – 135,000 (CA only).
