Aerospace / Aviation / Avionics, Systems Engineer, Mechanical Engineer
At Relativity Space, we’re building rockets to serve today’s needs and tomorrow’s breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. This milestone unlocks new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.
Joining Relativity means becoming part of a culture where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here you’re not just executing tasks; you’re solving unprecedented problems, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether you’re in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, you’ll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time.
Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice helps define the stories we’re writing together. This is a unique moment in time—early enough for you to leave a mark on the product, the process, and the culture, yet far enough along that Terran R is tangible and gathering momentum.
The Structures and Mechanisms眞 team is responsible for the full design, build, and test lifecycle of Terran R’s integrated structures and flight mechanisms. Whether you’re working on highly iterative mechanisms or tight‑margin structures, you’ll own hardware, see the rocket come to life on the factory floor, and make decisions that directly impact flight hardware. After first flight, you’ll play a critical role in refining for manufacturability and speed.
Aboutthe Role
To support our mission of changing how rockets are built and flown, you will bring critical flight structures and supporting components from design concept to physical hardware ready for launch. The scope includes conceptualization, design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing for primary and secondary structures related to the Thrust Structure, Propellant Tanks, Interstage, or Fairing, among others.
- Innovative conceptualization of structural load paths, design for complex structures, and adjacent system packaging
- Review of static & dynamic load inputs, material properties, and test, as well as structural system & subsystem requirements
- Analysis and sizing of flight structures to ensure timely design reviews and drawing release
- Develop and support hardware test campaigns, including test integration, operation, and result evaluation
- Support manufacturing process development, including tools or fixtures design or analysis
- Deliver projects on time and budget by working closely with additive, design, test, and loads & dynamics teams
In order to be successful, you should be self‑motivated, thrive in ambiguity, and lead your own projects to completion. Ideally, you come from a fast‑paced aerospace environment and have collaborated effectively with key groups.
On a weekly basis, you will design flight or ground components using NX/Team Center, perform analysis using Nastran, ANSYS, or hand calculations, create and release drawings, and support fabrication of your components. Your designs will be optimized for additive manufacturing methods, requiring fundamental knowledge. Strong organizational skills are essential to korrigieren your work and move forward with recommendations when decisions maitnet.
Qualifications- 2+ years of experience in a full‑cycle design engineering role
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline
- Demonstrated knowledge of structural analysis and test (from hand calculations to advanced analysis)
- Demonstrated knowledge of structures strength, stability, and fatigue failure mechanisms
- Demonstrated knowledge of additive and traditional manufacturing processes
- 2+ years of aerospace experience and an advanced engineering degree
- Experience with NX/Team Center
- Experience using Nastran and ANSYS
