Job Description

The Special Projects Division of KPFF is growing and looking for an ambitious and initiative‑driven Senior Civil Transportation Engineer to strengthen our dynamic team in Long Beach, CA. You will be at the heart of downtown, working on a diverse range of complex roadway and transportation improvements on design‑build and design‑bid‑build projects. As a key member, you’ll refine your existing expertise in transportation engineering while diving deep into design, project management, and delivering unparalleled client service.

What

You’ll Be Doing
  • Apply your engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions drawing on best practices.
  • Contribute to projects involving waterfront developments and industrial developments, leveraging your skills to drive successful outcomes.
  • Learn to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.
  • Gain experience in ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Enhance your skills in identifying and overcoming challenges through innovative problem‑solving approaches, utilizing both traditional and modern engineering techniques.
Project Leadership
  • Manage project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.
Client Engagement And Exceptional Service
  • Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs, providing clear communication, and delivering customized solutions that align with their objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering expert guidance and proactive support throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of civil design experience with a PE in the State of California or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil3D and other engineering design software proficiency is required.
  • Micro Station, InRoads, and Open Roads design experience is not required but desired.
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO, A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, 7th Edition.
  • Working knowledge of USDOT/FHWA, MUTCD for Streets and Highways, 2009 Edition.
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO, Roadside Design Guide, 4th Edition.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods and techniques.
  • Experience preparing roadway/transportation design documents and specifications.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans and Greenbook Standard Plans and Standard Specifications.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven capability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations.
