Salary RangeThe Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $74,652 to $158,688/year; $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $86,000 to $90,000 per year; $7,167 to $7,500/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications- Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Africana Studies with a specialization in Educational Leadership, Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field focused on Africana education. Degree required at time of application or official notification of completion by August 1, 2026.
- Demonstrated potential or evidence of effective teaching at the college level.
- Demonstrated potential or evidence of successful research and scholarly publication and/or creative activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low‑socioeconomic and first‑generation students.
- Evidence of grounding in Afrocentric methods and approaches and in comparative Africana Studies.
- Evidence of or potential for conducting comparative studies across Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, Latina/o Studies, and/or Asian American Studies.
- Commitment to using interdisciplinary approaches and intersectional methodologies from an Afrocentric standpoint.
- Ability to mentor and work with Africana Studies students in applied and action research, service learning, community engagement, internship, study abroad, and other faculty‑directed and supported student development activities.
- Commitment to working with Africana communities and to community engagement research and activities.
- Commitment to working with students, faculty, and within and across institutions and organizations.
- Experience with or commitment to learning instructional technologies to teach courses in various modes (in‑person, hybrid, online).
- Experience working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body, and mentoring students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies.
- Teach existing courses and develop new courses in Africana Education and Africana Studies reflecting developments in the discipline and expanding the department’s offerings. Mode of instruction may include in‑person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination.
- Enhance practices and policies of curriculum development, data‑driven decision‑making, interdepartmental collaboration, and community engagement.
- Expand the department’s existing high school and community college initiatives in Africana Studies and Ethnic studies.
- Collaborate with American Indian Studies, Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, and Asian American Studies to support existing courses and develop new courses that satisfy the CSU Ethnic Studies requirement.
