Qualifications
  • M.F.A. in Studio Art or a record of substantial creative/professional achievement* in a relevant discipline/field. Degree at time of application or official notification of degree completion by August 1, 2026. Substantial creative/professional achievement as demonstrated by portfolio of work and C.V.
  • Demonstrated potential and/or effectiveness for teaching Foundation courses at the college level including lower division courses
  • Active creative/professional record as demonstrated by portfolio of work and C.V.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including underprivileged and first‑generation students

Substantial Creative/Professional Achievement* Candidate may have a BFA, and/or a MA, including at least three years of teaching at the college level and a record of substantial creative/professional achievement in a relevant discipline/field which shall include at least one, but not limited to, of the following:
1) At least three years of distinguished record of exhibitions, performances, or productions at recognized venues (e.g., national galleries or museums);
2) At least three years of sustained national or international recognition (e.g., professional awards, fellowships, peer‑review jury service):
3) A record of peer validation (e.g., juried exhibitions, major publications, presentations, or competitive grants over a minimum five‑year period); and/or
4) A record of leadership in education, professional organizations, or related arts/arts education organizations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching Foundation level courses
  • Demonstrated commitment to, or potential for, building reciprocal relationships with marginalized communities, and/or engagement in social justice work through academic work and/or community service.
  • Ability to teach other Foundation Program courses, or in one or more of the School of Art's other programs
  • Demonstrated excellence in professional achievement
  • Demonstrated commitment to student advising, program coordination, committee work, or other service
  • Ability to interface with discipline‑based programs within a very large and diverse art department
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Duties
  • Teach in the areas of Foundation Drawing and Foundation Life Drawing, additional instruction may include courses in the Foundation area, or in any discipline program within the School of Art (mode of instruction may include in‑person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)
  • Serve as lead for staffing/scheduling of Foundation Drawing and Life Drawing courses on an ongoing basis
