Medical Assistant – Busy Nephrology Office
Rocky Mountain Kidney Care is looking to fill a Medical Assistant position. Our Medical Assistant is an essential part of a multidisciplinary team that provides patients with high‑quality care. - Greet, coordinate, schedule, and reschedule patient appointments, maximizing clinician availability and ensuring alignment with client needs.
- Assist with medical administrative support tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Handle inquiries from patients regarding appointments, services, and general information.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and practice manager to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient operations.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date scheduling records, promptly communicating any changes to clients and clinicians.
- Provide patient support services which may include registration assistance, patient portal assistance, patient check‑out and follow‑up visit support.
- Support health insurance management functions by collecting patient insurance information, documenting the patient’s method of payment and/or collecting copays and other payments.
- Receive inbound and place outbound patient calls to schedule appointments or procedures, complete registration functions and route calls as appropriate.
- Perform data entry functions, including entering patient demographic information and patient updates in a medical records system.
- Room patients timely and efficiently.
- Take patient vitals including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse ox.
- Verify current medications, supplements, and medical history for patients.
- Perform urinalysis on patients and prepare slides for review.
- Assist in identifying problems; insurance information and appropriate referrals have been completely and accurately obtained.
- Provide customer service in person by phone or email; assist customers, patients, families, providers, and staff with clinical questions, medications, and test results.
- Help patients schedule and coordinate referrals, labs, imaging, procedures, screening appointments, dialysis, and hospital direct admissions.
- Process prior authorization and appeals for medications.
- Triage patient calls for pharmacy requests, test results, medical questions, and concerns as directed by the physician; document outcomes in EHR.
- Assist in the maintenance of all logs and records for OSHA.
- Adhere to and follow sterilization and disinfection practices throughout the facility.
- Adhere to bio‑hazardous or red bag waste policy and procedure for properly disposing of biomedical waste.
- Utilize medical terminology effectively in documentation and communication.

- High school diploma/GED required.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification or agreement to certify within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in medical assistant role (experience in a specialty clinic preferred).
- Bilingual preferred.
- Experience in a fast‑paced, patient‑centered/customer‑service focused clinic.
- Possession of strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize tasks based on importance.
- Knowledge and use of electronic medical records (familiarity with Athena & Epic preferred).
- Knowledge of insurance referral and authorization process is preferred.
- Experience with medical records, faxes, authorizations, and referrals are a must.
- Strong knowledge of clinical/medical practice operations, procedures, terminology, and administrative procedures.
