SAM is adding a position to its existing two-year analyst rotational program that will expose the successful candidate to four segments of our index business: equity portfolio management, fixed income portfolio management, equity trading and capital markets, and fixed income trading and capital markets.
The role will be embedded within each distinct team for six months, and the analyst will support automation, process enhancement, and research projects, with the potential to assist with each teams’ daily workflow. At the end of the two-year rotation, the candidate will be placed on one of the rotational teams based on business needs.

The position will be based in Lone Tree, CO (Denver) or Westlake, TX (Dallas‑Fort Worth), reporting to a Senior Portfolio Manager and supervised by senior members of the investment team. The candidate will regularly interact with members of our team across offices in San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Jersey City, Westlake, and Naples, FL. The position will adhere to Schwab’s workplace policy requiring employees to work in the office / on‑site four days per week.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support daily workflow in a highly automated, fast‑paced environment
  • Utilize analytics and investment software applications and tools to conduct analysis supporting the portfolio management and trading teams throughout each part of the rotation
  • Analyze and research key topics relevant to SAM’s index business (mutual funds and ETFs, ETF creation/redemption mechanics and interactions with key stakeholders, competitive landscape, index methodologies, implementation of investment strategies, etc.) and give presentations on key takeaways to senior members of the investment team
  • Complete ad hoc projects supporting equity portfolio management, fixed income portfolio management, equity trading and capital markets, and fixed income trading and capital markets teams during each respective part of the rotation
  • Identify potential opportunities to further automate different parts of portfolio management and trading workflows, and present those ideas to senior members of the investment team
What you have

Required Qualifications

  • We are seeking a candidate that is passionate about investing and the global capital markets with strong quantitative and technical aptitude, including a graduate degree in the following or related areas of study:
    • Statistics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics / Computational Finance, Operations Research, Computer Science and/or Data Analytics / Science.
    • Candidates with general business or other degrees and demonstrated quantitative experience and expertise may also be considered.
  • Interest in and/or experience using optimization software, multi‑factor risk modeling, and techniques related to the statistical modeling of large complex data sets
  • Strong working knowledge of Python, R, or other programming language(s)
  • Team player mindset and ability to collaborate across the organization. Natural curiosity, problem solving, demonstrated critical thinking and creativity, and a passion for learning and innovating.
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal, with strong organizational and time‑management skills. detail‑oriented; must possess the ability to work efficiently within tight time constraints

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
