Job Overview

New opportunity to work onsite at Heathrow airport as a Technician.

Our client is responsible for the fuel infrastructure at Heathrow, with around 35 staff. Over one‑third of the team are Technicians who perform quality control tests on receipt of the fuel at the airport and in the tank farms each day prior to release into the hydrant systems. They also conduct routine tests at various times across the 650 refuelling points around the Airport and supports Heathrow Airport and the airlines.

Working hours:

Full time, 40 hours a week. A shift role of 4 on 4 off covering a 24/7 operation as part of a 12‑person team. The shifts are broken down into 3 blocks: an early shift from 05:00 to 17:00, a late shift 12:00 to 00:00 and a night shift 21:15 to 5:30 giving 24‑7 airport cover. Overtime and shift cover may also be required from time to time.

This will be paid as an overtime position.

The role

Perform Jet A‑1 product quality testing and minor maintenance & inspection activities that ensure fit for purpose on specification is delivered into the process plant, the hydrant system and ultimately to the aircraft.

Contribute to a positive health, safety, security and the environment (HSSE) culture and performance, with the aim of there being no HSSE incidents or accidents:

Follow the site safety rules.

Execute work in a safe manner, report any unsafe acts & conditions, near misses or improvements and participate in HSSE initiatives.

Be able to participate lead (when required) toolbox talks and work under permit to work conditions (when required). Be able to understand risk assessments and stop work authority for safety when required.

Comply with all relevant HSSE legislation and guidance.

Be able to understand and follow company procedures, task steps, operations rules and policies. Follow industry standard (Jig‑2) procedures and complete paper & electronic records of activities that have been undertaken.

Learn, comply with and when necessary, help enhance technician procedures.

Participate in and enhance a positive working culture. Have good and constructive communication and engagement with colleagues across the company.

Proactively keep the work and facilities environmentally tidy.

Have the licences to be able to safely drive and operate all of the companies light duty vehicles, pit cleaners and rigid tankers (also refer to Essential, Very Desirable and Desirable Skills sections).

Work as a member of a self‑managing team with a sense of collective responsibility and purpose and to provide support and advice to colleagues.

Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope and skill of the post and as required by managers and leaders, such as attend training activities and support with engineering work.

Help respond to emergency situations (with support of control room team).

As part of these activities driving rigid tankers is required, therefore having a class 2 (category

C) HGV licence will be very advantageous, but if not the company will put employees through third‑party driver training so that the licence can be obtained.

About you

Show visible commitment to health, safety, security and the environment (HSSE) and comply with all relevant HSSE legislation and company policies or initiatives with the aim of there being no HSSE incidents or accidents.

  • Hold a full UK driving licence (and ideally a HGV class 2 or class 1 licence).
  • Have a good understanding of mechanics or have mechanical experience or background (ideally on process plant).
  • Keep a positive attitude and be able to work in a team environment.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reasonable IT skills.
  • Be able to work shift work to cover a 24‑7‑365 operation.
  • Able to work unsupervised, be self‑motivated and able to organise and prioritise their own work.
  • Have the right to work in the UK and be able to pass basic security clearance to work airside (basic DBS check).
  • Be willing to continuously learn and strive to understand new aspects of the job and process plant.
  • Fuels/aviation sector experience.
  • Airside experience as a refueler or baggage handler.
  • JIG‑2 knowledge.
  • Process Safety experience.
  • Permit to work experience.
  • Relevant technical qualification. Preferred NVQ level 2, 3 or higher.
