Key Responsibilities

The Fitter provides essential technical support to either the Engine or Deck department, reporting to the Second Engineer or Chief Officer depending on the vessel's needs. The primary responsibility involves assisting with the manual maintenance and repair of machinery, plant, and technical equipment under the direct guidance of an Engineer Officer. This includes supporting watch keepers during routine operations and participating in specialized mechanical tasks while strictly adhering to shipboard safety protocols.

Beyond technical repairs, the Fitter is expected to carry out any additional duties assigned by senior engineering staff to ensure efficient ship operations. The role demands an orderly approach to manual tasks, a strong commitment to teamwork, and the ability to follow complex technical instructions accurately. Clear communication is key, as the Fitter must be willing to seek clarification to ensure all maintenance work is performed safely and to the required standard.
