Dangerous Goods Manager

About the Role

The Dangerous Goods Manager is responsible for providing subject matter expertise and strategic oversight for the safe and compliant transport, handling, and storage of dangerous goods across air, road, and sea operations. The role ensures full compliance with all applicable dangerous goods and radioactive materials regulations and acts as the company's appointed Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) in accordance with statutory requirements.

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the transport of dangerous goods by air, road, and sea, providing authoritative guidance across the organization.
• Maintain qualifications as Dangerous Goods by Air Acceptance, including Radioactive Materials, IMDG Advanced, and DGSA certification.
• Provide expert advice to operational, commercial, and senior management teams on dangerous goods compliance and risk mitigation.
• DGSA Appointment and Regulatory Compliance
  • Act as the company's appointed DGSA in accordance with the Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations (CDG 2009/2011/2018, as amended).
  • Ensure company-wide compliance with all applicable modal regulations, including IATA DGR, ICAO Technical Instructions, ADR, IMDG Code, ONR IRR 2017, and relevant national legislation.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure timely implementation across all facilities and operations.
  • Advise senior management and operational teams on legal obligations related to dangerous goods transport.
• Audits and Assurance
  • Plan and conduct annual Dangerous Goods audits for all company facilities and operational areas.
  • Identify non-conformances and raise Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), ensuring effective closure and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular compliance monitoring to ensure sustained regulatory adherence.
  • Support external audits and regulatory inspections.
• Radioactive Protection and Safety
  • Act as the Senior Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), liaising closely with the Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) on all matters relating to the handling, storage, and transport of radioactive materials.
  • Review and maintain Local Rules, Radiation Risk Assessments (RRA), contingency plans, and emergency response procedures.
  • Carry out monthly Senior RPS audits, raising CAPAs where non-conformances are identified.
• Risk Assessment & Safety Management
  • Support emergency preparedness, including spill response and incident containment procedures.
• Documentation, Manuals, and Data Management
  • Coordinate the annual procurement and distribution of dnata UK IATA Dangerous Goods, PER, TCR, AVI, and other regulatory manuals.
  • Develop and update dangerous goods procedures, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Compile and analyze statistical data, including dangerous goods tonnages, DG occurrences, and undeclared dangerous goods trends, to support performance monitoring and reporting.
• Regulatory Liaison and Reporting
  • Act as the primary liaison with Dangerous Goods regulatory authorities, including but not limited to:
  • Department for Transport (DfT) – Land Security
  • Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) – Dangerous Goods
  • Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR)
  • Compile and submit regulatory reports as required, including Dangerous Goods Occurrence Reports (DGORs) for air incidents, INF1 reports for Radac, and other statutory notifications.
• Incident Management and Investigation
  • Act as investigation owner for all dangerous goods incidents logged within d Hub or equivalent reporting systems.
  • Ensure incidents are thoroughly investigated by facility management and that root causes are identified.
  • Liaise with senior management to communicate findings, elevate immediate safety concerns, and ensure corrective actions are implemented without delay.

• Dangerous goods training commensurate with responsibilities, but to include a minimum of IATA CBTA Well defined Function 7.33, RADAC (class
  7) and Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) IMDG desirable
