This role involves managing the Cargo Operations team to deliver and uphold exceptional service standards. Responsibilities include efficiently planning and coordinating the movement of cargo and mail in line with customer service agreements and regulatory requirements.

This position requires regular interaction with internal teams and external stakeholders. Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, Security, and SOPs is paramount. As LHR also have oversight of multiple stations within the UK, Ireland, Middle East, India, ensuring good communication with the appointed Ground Handling Agents (GHAs) for these stations is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of Cargo Operations to guarantee efficient and accurate movement of cargo and mail, in alignment with customer agreements and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders to deliver exceptional service and meet operational objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Uphold strict adherence to Health & Safety, Quality, Security, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure operational excellence.
  • Reporting of safety events in the Air Canada Safety Management System (SIMS).
  • Coordinate and provide corrective action plans for any related safety incidents.
  • Ensuring day to day compliance with Customs and Airport Authority regulations.
  • Oversee operations at designated Air Canada Cargo stations within the UK, Ireland, Middle East, and India, including engagement with appointed GHAs in these regions.
  • Monitor results and take corrective action as required to ensure agreed goals/objectives are met.
  • Recommend any changes of processes or procedures to support or enhance Cargo business.
  • Establish manpower requirements and supervise manpower deployment, in the most productive manner, including training, performance evaluations, coaching and time & attendance.
  • Ensure that Company Policy/Procedures are adhered to and communicated to staff effectively.
  • Provide support for any recruitment requirements.
  • Organize and manage applicable security screening requirements.
  • Initiate and instigate Track & Trace shipments using available resources (flight files/CCTV).
  • Monitor and action Cargo Operations Managers generic Mailbox.
  • Provide operational feedback to reservations team on volumes, acceptance screening times etc.
  • Monitor ULD compliance to ensure stock levels are pro-actively managed.
  • Liaise with the Airport Operations teams regarding baggage, ULD distribution, truck times and operational concerns.
  • Act as a key point of contact for issue resolution and escalation, maintaining effective communication channels across teams and external partners.
  • Complete daily Safety Observation Reports & station self-audit check lists.
  • Initiate, action and investigate Quality Online Reports (QOR), identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Support departmental managers in any ongoing or future projects.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience of Operations management within the aviation or logistics industry.
  • Proven leadership abilities with a track record of effectively managing diverse teams.
  • Strong ability to deal efficiently with challenges and to adapt to a permanently changing environment, to make decisions and accept responsibility for same.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Be able to work autonomously.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of relevant software and Cargo related systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK unrestricted.
  • Must have full driving license.
