Brief Description

Working in all weathers on the front line, you will carry out maintenance and faulting duties, and develop management skills by deputising for the Team Leader. Your work will keep the nation moving every day on the railway.

About the Role

Our Technicians are the essential link between the Team Leader and Operatives, specialising in Track. You will maintain, inspect and repair the track network, working manually on rails, sleepers, ballast and associated structures. The role is fully outdoors, day and night, and you will work alongside moving trains, demanding manual work and challenging terrain. Safety, teamwork and the ability to lead when asked are critical.

You will be a role model for safe working behaviours and confident to challenge any potential risks.

You Matter to Your Team

A natural team player, you will lead the team when asked, check competencies, and deliver work safely. You will ensure the team meets our strict safety standards and challenge risks to keep everyone home safe.

You Matter to Us

Technicians can progress to Team Leaders. Commitment to continuous learning and self‑development is essential. We will provide training to develop technical and non‑technical skills, allowing you to build a rewarding career in rail.

  • Relevant qualification – ideally NVQ Level 1 or 2 in the discipline, or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
