Overview
Technician role with Network Rail. Working outdoors on the frontline, you’ll carry out maintenance and faulting, and you’ll have opportunities to deputise for the Team Leader and develop management skills as part of your career progression.
You’ll help keep the railway safe, reliable and moving, serving passengers and freight users.
Responsibilities- Carry out maintenance, faulting and renewal activities as part of the frontline maintenance team.
- Support essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, often with manual tasks and transporting kit across varied terrain.
- Lead when asked by the Team Leader, ensure the team has the right competencies, and model safe working behaviours to protect everyone on site.
- Maintain and repair the land alongside the track network (Off Track) including vegetation management, drainage and ancillary structures.
- Applicants must hold PTS and Controller of Site Safety as a minimum requirement; knowledge/experience of track maintenance and track inspection is desirable.
- Relevant qualification: NVQ Level 1 or 2 related to the discipline, or equivalent level of relevant experience.
- Leadership – able to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
- Effective communicator – strong written and verbal communication to give clear instructions.
- Technical skills – knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the applicable discipline.
- Safety – models safe behaviours, can implement safe systems of work, and is willing to challenge unsafe situations.
- Problem solving – able to find safe and effective solutions and stay up to date with new standards and procedures.
- Willingness to learn – committed to developing both technical and non-technical skills.
- Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
- Knowledge of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work.
- Strong communication skills, both in person and in writing.
- Knowledge of discipline-specific maintenance, inspection, faulting and renewal techniques.
- Willing and able to work shifts in all weathers.
- Meet the required benchmark for application screening questions (all applicants).
Salary:
Starting at £37,073 + Location Allowance.

- Commute – within a 60-minute commute of the location applied for.
