Gala Academy is looking for a dedicated and inspiring Head Badminton Coach to lead our junior programme and help young people aged 11–17 grow through badminton. This role is ideal for a coach who is passionate about youth development, community engagement, and creating positive sporting experiences while supporting athletes on their performance pathways.
Location: Gala Academy, London, UK
Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time (hours agreed), Self-Employed
Pay: £35 per hour, rising to £55 per hour through our Incentivisation Scheme
The RoleYou will play a key role in building a welcoming, supportive, and aspirational badminton environment. Alongside developing skills and performance, you will help young athletes build confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love for the sport.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver structured, engaging, and inclusive training sessions
- Support the technical, physical, and personal development of young athletes
- Mentor players through regular feedback, encouragement, and goal setting
- Identify and support emerging talent within the programme
- Prepare squads for local, regional, and national competitions
- Create positive competition experiences focused on learning and growth
- Support and guide assistant coaches
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and motivating training environment
- Contribute to programme organisation, communication, and reporting
- Promote Gala Academy and engage positively with families, schools, and the wider community
- Degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or related field
- Experience coaching badminton, ideally with young people
- Strong understanding of badminton fundamentals and player development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Badminton coaching qualifications (e.g. BWF Level 1 or higher)
- First Aid / CPR certification
- Experience in community or youth sport programmes
- A positive, inclusive, and player-centred coaching approach
