We’re looking for an experienced Technical Engineering Manager to join a mature, squad-based engineering organisation in the UK, leading talented engineers to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive technical excellence, shape careers, and influence platform and engineering outcomes across multiple squads.

You’ll act as the technical “lighthouse”, guiding engineers, mentoring talent, and shaping technical standards across squads of 7–9 people. Your focus will be on engineering excellence, automation, observability, and Dev Ops practices, ensuring that technical decisions balance business outcomes with quality, reliability, and scalability.

You’ll work closely with product, architecture, and platform teams to deliver well-architected solutions while encouraging intelligent use of AI-assisted development tools to boost productivity.

• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to multi-functional software engineering squads
• Shape technical careers, identify skill gaps, and improve engineering efficiency
• Support automation, observability, and Dev Ops practices across the platform
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver well-architected, scalable solutions
• Drive improvements in platform reliability and operational performance
• Advocate for intelligent adoption of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Git Hub Copilot)

• Experienced Engineering Manager (not first-time) with exposure to multiple environments
• Strong technical literacy (can read and deploy code, understand infrastructure, guide technical decisions) across backend engineering (Python/ Node.js/ Java/ C# etc.)
• Experience leading squads in a mature Agile/CI/CD environment
• AWS-centric technical background, including data pipelines, search, complex data structures, and infrastructure as code
• Bonus:
  Graph databases, Dev Ex, observability tools, incident management
• Pragmatic, measured approach focused on incremental improvement and impactful coaching

• Lead and mentor talented engineers in a high-performing, data-driven environment
• Directly influence platform scalability, observability, and operational excellence
• Work in a structured, squad-based organisation where technical leadership drives impact
