Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Greater London

Allied Offsets has a unique mission: combine technology, data, and finance to bring radical transparency to carbon offsetting. We do this by creating innovative data products that help to improve transparency in the market. With 30,000+ projects in our database including details about the project, carbon credits, buyers, retirements, news, brokers, resellers, prices, forward curves and much more. Our current clients include corporations, financial institutions, brokers, academia, consulting firms, public sector entities, and research organizations.

Carbon offsetting is becoming increasingly popular as companies and individuals around the world take a more active role in mitigating climate change. However, the market is very fragmented with (until now) no central registry for all the projects, making it difficult to know what the projects are, and how they compare with others. Our database allows a wide variety of industry actors to access information on projects across all registries, in order to make the market more transparent and available to all.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to join a fast-growing company at the intersection of technology, finance, and sustainability. You’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining the systems that power our global carbon markets data platform.

As a Software Engineer, you’ll work on data-intensive backend applications, APIs, and infrastructure that support our analytics tools and external clients. You’ll have considerable ownership over your work and the opportunity to influence both technical direction and product development as we continue to scale.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys building robust systems, working with complex datasets, and contributing to meaningful climate-focused technology. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, solves problems thoughtfully, and thrives in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities may include
  • Designing and developing backend systems and APIs that power our data platform
  • Building and extending data engineering pipelines that process complex carbon market datasets
  • Developing and maintaining infrastructure to securely serve data to external clients
  • Working with relational databases (e.g. Postgre

SQL) to optimize performance and scalability
  • Contributing to full-stack development where needed, including internal tools and client-facing applications
  • Collaborating with data scientists and analysts to translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Writing clean, well-tested, and well-documented code
  • Supporting deployment processes and contributing to cloud infrastructure management
Requirements

We’re looking for a capable and pragmatic engineer with experience building data-heavy applications and a genuine interest in the climate and sustainability space. The ideal candidate will have some of the following skills or experience:

  • Strong experience with Python, ideally 2-3 years (OOP knowledge is a bonus)
  • Demonstrable experience working in climate, sustainability, environmental data, or a strong, evidenced interest in the voluntary carbon markets
  • 2+ years of experience building and deploying REST APIs (Flask, FastAPI), including endpoint design, authentication, database integration, and cloud deployment.
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with relational databases, including writing and optimizing complex SQL queries (Postgre

    SQL preferred)
  • Experience handling and processing complex datasets
  • Familiarity with at least one modern cloud platform (AWS preferred)
  • Dev Ops experience and understanding of deployment workflows
  • Strong security awareness when handling sensitive data
  • Experience with data analysis libraries such as pandas, numpy, or similar
  • 2+ years of experience using Git for version control in collaborative development environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Hybrid Work Schedule
  • Work for a purpose-driven company knowing your efforts are helping to mitigate the effects of climate change and build a better world for future generations
  • Work in a collaborative environment with motivated, purpose-driven colleagues
