About Mayday
We're an accounting-tech startup building automation and AI to eliminate the tedious manual spreadsheet-based work that haunts in-house finance teams every single month. We serve the mid-market end of SMB: in-house finance teams of 2–10 people. Our mission is to mend month end and enable real-time accounting.
We recently passed £1m ARR and are growing fast after four years in market, doubling our revenue in 2025. We’re in a phenomenal position as category leaders — evidenced by our strategic partnership with Xero and winning Xero’s Global People’s Choice Award, ahead of 1,200+ connected solutions. Our team spans the UK, Australia and South Africa, with the UK and Australia as our largest markets and North America now opened up as a growth focus.
We’re founded by experienced entrepreneurs in David Tuck (ex-CFO and founder of Chaser) and James Scott‑Griffin (former CTO at Idio/Optimizely and Rungway). Backed by elite investors, we’re doubling the team to 24 as we accelerate the next phase of growth.
The RoleYou will report directly to the CPTO and work alongside the whole business to deliver next‑generation accounting technology. Since our product is deep accounting tech, familiarity with accounting is a bonus, and at a minimum you're willing to learn its concepts and processes. All employees are supported in their personal development with both time and budget, so we will help you gain the knowledge you need.
Mayday is headquartered in the UK, and this role is open to candidates in the UK, preferably in or close to London.
Since Mayday is a startup, you will be required to wear multiple hats and be comfortable working in a fast‑paced, sometimes unpredictable environment. As a small team, your contributions will be significant and highly visible. You'll be asked to find pragmatic solutions which allow us to test product hypotheses rapidly, and once they're proven, build scalable, dependable, and well‑tested product for our customers to use.
As the Senior Frontend Engineer, you will own the frontend stack, set standards, and be a mentor to the other frontend engineers. As we grow, you will be responsible for managing the frontend team.
Our tech stack is React with Typescript, MobX, and Tailwind. Ideally, you're an expert in most of those tools, but it's ok if you aren't — we’re looking for great people, so your experience is more valuable than the specifics.
About You- You're an experienced frontend engineer with multiple years of working in startups;
- You have a strong, pragmatic problem‑solving mindset;
- You're comfortable working both collaboratively and on your own as location and task requires.
- Salary is up to £100k depending on experience;
- Share options from day 1;
- 25 days’ paid holiday, plus public holidays;
- Personal learning and development budget;
- 1 day a week in person in Central London (likely more during onboarding).
Please get in touch at If you have an up‑to‑date CV, then great, but please don’t go to loads of effort to produce one if you don’t. A link to your Linked In profile will be fine.
Our interview process is: an initial interview call of around 30 minutes, a second, more technical interview with two members of the team you'd be working directly with, followed by a final round where we contract you to work with us for half a day on a real Mayday problem.
