** What you’ll be doing
** In this role you will play a pivotal role in leading the development of scalable, cloud-native applications and mentoring other engineers. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and architects to deliver high-quality solutions that support BPP’s transformation into a customer-centred, data-informed education group. This role combines hands-on engineering with line management responsibilities, fostering growth and excellence within your team.

As such, you will be responsible for:

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design, development, and delivery of full stack features using Type Script, React, Node.js, Next.js, and AWS.
* Mentor mid-level and junior engineers, supporting their career development and performance.
* Promote engineering best practices including clean code, TDD, pair programming, and cloud-native design.
* Collaborate with architecture and product teams to assess feasibility and translate requirements into technical deliverables.
* Review code, provide technical guidance, and ensure high standards of software craftsmanship.
* Contribute to the evolution of internal engineering standards and practices.
* Support CI/CD pipeline improvements and infrastructure automation.
* Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
** What we’re looking for
** To be successful in this role you will need to have a proven track record in the following areas:
** Skills, experience & qualifications required – Essential
*** 4+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in agile environments.
* Strong proficiency in full stack development with React, Node.js, Type Script, and Next.js.
* Solid experience with AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS).
* Proven ability to mentor and manage engineers effectively.
* Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, Playwright).
* Familiarity with CI/CD tools and version control (Git, Git Hub Actions).
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
* Pragmatic mindset focused on delivering business value.
** Skills, experience & qualifications required – Desirable
*** Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi).
* Exposure to micro-frontend or headless CMS architectures.
* Understanding of accessibility and performance optimization.
* Security-first approach to software design.
* Experience with data visualization or BI tools.
