Senior Android Engineer at Ohme
Ohme is on a mission to accelerate the global transition to clean, affordable energy. We do that by serving as an integrated hardware and software smart‑grid platform, focused on the residential EV charging market.
We’re looking for a Senior Android Engineer to take a leading role in building the next generation of Ohme’s Android app – the digital heart of how our customers interact with their chargers and the grid. You’ll provide strong technical leadership in Android development, playing a pivotal role in setting the standard for mobile engineering excellence ’ll collaborate closely with our backend, product, and hardware teams to deliver a world‑class app that connects with Ohme chargers, communicates with our API, and brings to life the energy‑smart features our customers love.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of critical app components, mentor team members, and contribute to both architectural and product decisions.
- Design, develop, and maintain Ohme’s Android app using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Drive adoption of robust architectural patterns such as MVVM to ensure modularity and testability.
- Integrate with backend services via RESTful APIs and ensure seamless data flow across the system.
- Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines using Bitrise, ensuring reliable, automated builds and deployments.
- Incorporate analytics, messaging, and localisation tools (e.g. Firebase, Customer.io, Crowdin) to enhance user engagement and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including design, product, QA, and firmware to deliver new features end‑to‑end.
- Mentor and motivate other engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- 5+ years of experience building and maintaining production‑grade Android applications.
- Expertise in Kotlin and Android Studio with experience using Jetpack Compose.
- Strong grasp of MVVM and other software design patterns.
- Solid understanding of app localisation and internationalisation best practices.
- Passionate about crafting intuitive, elegant, and performant user interfaces.
- Proactive, collaborative, and energized by solving complex problems in a fast‑moving environment.
- Skilled in implementing CI/CD workflows (experience with Bitrise is a plus).
- Comfortable integrating and managing third‑party SDKs (Firebase, Customer.io, localisation frameworks).
- Nice to have: experience with Bluetooth (BLE).
