Role: Platform Engineer (Developer Experience)

Location: London / Hybrid (2 days per week in office)

Reporting to: Platform Engineering Manager

Job Overview

This role blends traditional Java service maintenance with Platform Engineering. Initially, you will maintain existing Java services owned by the Developer Experience team, then shift focus to extending our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) to make infrastructure abstraction easier for developers.

Typical Responsibilities

• Maintain Java services owned by Developer Experience.
• Support developers through the support rota and provide hands‑on assistance.
• Deliver training workshops and improve documentation.
• Develop platform tasks and learn new technologies.
• Expand self‑service capabilities for common use cases.
• Enhance IDP Platform and create Git Lab CI templates.
• Standardise configuration, monitoring, and diagnostics.
• Participate in the on‑call rota (1 week/month).

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong Java foundation – clean, efficient, well‑documented code.
• Experience with JUnit and Mockito.
• Debugging and troubleshooting complex systems.
• Gradle: build scripts, multi‑project builds, dependency management, and performance optimisation.
• Spring Boot knowledge for library upgrades.
• Custom Gradle plugin development.
• Experience with SDLC frameworks (ISO 27002:2022), SALSA, and SBOMs.
