Staff Software Engineer – Product and Commercial Trading

As part of the M&S Software Engineering team, you’ll be joining a well‑loved historic brand, working on solutions that serve millions of loyal customers and thousands of colleagues. Your role will help modernise critical systems for M&S and drive the software that powers our warehouse operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, test, and debug software solutions to customise and optimise our warehouse management system (WMS), ensuring scalability, data integrity, and seamless integration with other critical systems.
  • Lead the design of scalable and adaptable software architectures that support multiple, differing warehouse operations from a single codebase.
  • Provide technical leadership, guiding engineering excellence, modern tooling, and best practices across the Supply Chain space.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high‑quality code.
  • Collaborate deeply with supply‑chain, product, and operations teams to craft effective technical solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong experience building high‑quality, reliable software with automation in the cloud.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of complex tasks, deliver them routinely, and manage significant issues.
  • Experience developing M&S‑standard frameworks and policies, ensuring adoption across teams.
  • Support other engineers through code reviews and pair programming.
  • Drive Dev Ops practices to automate the product‑development life cycle.
  • Preferred technical skills:
    Oracle

    DB, Mongo

    DB, Terraform, Spring Boot, Micronaut, Java 11+, IBM MQ, Kafka, Azure Data Factory, Power

    BI.
