Join Brent’s Nuisance Control Team — a fast-moving frontline service that protects residents’ wellbeing and keeps our borough a safe, vibrant place to live.
As a Nuisance Control Officer, you’ll investigate and resolve issues such as noise, smoke, odour, dust and artificial light, using both advice and enforcement to achieve real outcomes for the community. No two days are the same: you’ll be out on cases, gathering evidence, assessing risk, speaking with residents and businesses, and taking decisive action where needed.
You’ll also play a key role in Planning and Licensing consultations, ensuring new developments and events don’t create public nuisance.
The role includes participation in our Out-of-Hours rota, where your work has immediate, visible impact. (Shift allowance is paid for the out of hours work)
This is a role for someone who thrives on problem-solving, autonomy, and genuinely improving quality of life for local people.
The Person- Strong experience in environmental health or a related specialism
- Sound knowledge of statutory nuisance and enforcement powers
- Calm, clear, confident communication — especially during conflict
- Ability to assess evidence and make balanced, fair decisions
- Strong organisational and investigative skills
- A full UK driving licence
Higher-grade officers (PO3) will handle the most complex cases and support colleagues.
Why This Role Matter- Your decisions change people’s daily lives overnight
- You become a trusted problem-solver for residents
- You’re out and about — not tied to a desk
- You use professional judgement and real legal powers
- You tackle issues that genuinely impact health and wellbeing
- A supporting statement showing how you meet the Person Specification
- ACV if you wish (CVs alone won’t be accepted)
