Family Mediator (Temporary - Until End of March)

Southwark Head Office (with travel across London)

£14.17 per hour + £1.71 holiday pay = £15.88 per hour

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Family Mediator to join our team on a temporary basis until the end of March. This is a flexible, part-time role working 2-3 days per week (Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm) with adaptable hours.

About the Role

You will work directly with young people aged 11-25 and their families who are experiencing conflict and are at risk of homelessness. Through personalised support and mediation, you will help reduce family breakdown, improve communication, and strengthen relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and joint mediation sessions for young people and families
  • Manage a caseload of 5-11 families
  • Complete risk and needs assessments, support plans and outcome monitoring
  • Process referrals and promote the service to maintain a full caseload
  • Support young people in various circumstances, including those at risk of homelessness or in temporary accommodation
  • Build strong partnerships with local authorities and external agencies
  • Maintain accurate case records in line with safeguarding and operational procedures
  • Work independently (including lone working) and travel across London boroughs
About You

To apply, you must have:

  • Significant experience working with young people and families in crisis
  • Proven mediation experience and a solution-focused, reflective approach
  • Experience managing your own caseload independently
  • Strong understanding of youth homelessness issues
  • Experience conducting risk/needs assessments and support planning
  • Excellent partnership-building and communication skills
  • High level of professionalism, impartiality, and safeguarding awareness
  • Ability and willingness to travel independently across London (travel expenses claimable)
