Location: Lewisham (School-based)
Salary: £28,500 per annum + annual clothing allowance Contract: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week Start date: ASAP Sector: Education / Youth & Community
We are recruiting a Detached Casework Mentor to work within a secondary school setting in Lewisham
, supporting young people who may be at risk of antisocial behaviour, criminal exploitation, or gang involvement.
This is a frontline, relationship-based role where you will engage young people in their environment, provide 1:1 mentoring, and work closely with school staff and external agencies to reduce risk and promote positive pathways.
Key Responsibilities- Build trusted relationships with young people aged 11–24
- Deliver 1:1 mentoring and targeted interventions within a school setting
- Support young people to access education, training, and employment
- Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with policy
- Mediate conflict and support emotional regulation
- Maintain accurate case notes and reports using case management systems
- Work collaboratively with school staff and multi-agency partners
- Monitor progress and contribute to programme evaluation
- Confident engaging and building rapport with vulnerable young people
- Strong communication, listening, and relationship-building skills
- Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and youth risk factors
- Experience (paid or voluntary) working with young people, offenders, or hard-to-reach groups
- Able to work independently, show initiative, and manage a caseload
Qualifications are not essential – relevant experience, mindset, and commitment are key.
Desirable- Experience working in schools or youth services
- Knowledge of gang involvement, exploitation, or serious youth violence
- Multi-agency working experience
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
