Looking for your next exciting adventure in social work? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Quality Improvement Service in the London Borough of Bromley. Bromley is seeking a highly talented and ambitious Reviewing Officer to join us as we strive to maintain excellence.

You can view our “Making Bromley Even Better” Corporate Strategy video here:

Role and Responsibilities

This is a unique, specialist role consisting of both Independent Reviewing Officer and Child Protection Chair duties. The Reviewing Officer will form part of Bromley’s Quality Improvement Service in Children’s Social Care. The service fulfils a reviewing and quality assurance function, and the post-holder will have a unique overview and involvement with all the services that make up Bromley’s Children’s Social Care Division.

Our Reviewing Officers provide an integral ‘support and challenge’ role and fulfil their duties as required by the London Child Protection Procedures and the IRO Handbook. They do not have case decision-making responsibilities and do not supervise social workers, making this role suitable for social work managers with CLA and Safeguarding/Child Protection experience who want to develop skills in quality assurance.

If you have a strong interest in child protection and are committed to ensuring children and young people’s wishes and feelings are given full consideration as part of their care plan, this could be the perfect role for you!

The post-holder will be responsible for preparing and chairing looked after reviews for children and identifying any issues impacting their welfare or hindering timely permanence. They will also chair initial and review child protection conferences.

To represent good practice in delivering a quality service, Bromley Reviewing Officers on average hold a caseload of between 55-60 looked after children, reflecting the diversity and complexity of cases in our borough.

Skills and Requirements

The ideal candidate will need excellent communication skills, be highly motivated, flexible and innovative. They should be persistent and courageous to challenge others when the needs of children are not being met. Our Reviewing Officers benefit from regular supervision, training and support from a welcoming team of like-minded professionals.

Applicants must be qualified social workers, have management experience within statutory children’s social care, hold current SWE registration and a satisfactory DBS check. A current full driving licence is essential.

Are you ready to join our team and be part of our exciting journey?

You will join an ambitious service with strong leadership and clear lines of support. As part of the Bromley Promise there will be a dedicated two-week induction programme on joining us. We are confident that with your support we will continue to provide high quality social care services to our children in Bromley as set out in our improvement and transformation plan.

We ask you to bring your passion, dedication and skills to us.

Within the Personal Statement section, clearly outline what experience you have and how you would meet the Person Specification for the role.
