Housing Options Officer | Outer London Area | Freelance

I am seeking an experienced and customer focused Housing Options Officer to join my client’s Housing Services team based just outside of North London. You will play a key role in preventing homelessness, providing housing advice, and assessing applications in line with housing legislation and statutory duties.

Job Title: Housing Options Officer

Employment Type: Freelance / Contract

Working Arrangement: Hybrid (2-3 days in the office)

• Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act 1996
• Experience delivering housing options and homelessness prevention services
• Ability to carry out homelessness assessments and make legally compliant decisions
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills
• Experience working with vulnerable households and safeguarding procedures
• Ability to manage a complex caseload independently in a fast paced environment
• Strong IT skills, including housing options and case management systems
• Effective problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure

• Provide comprehensive housing advice and homelessness prevention support
• Assess homelessness applications and determine statutory duties
• Develop and review Personalised Housing Plans with applicants
• Work proactively to prevent and relieve homelessness using a range of housing options
• Liaise with landlords, housing providers, and partner agencies to secure accommodation
• Make referrals to support services for vulnerable applicants where appropriate
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure decisions are legally robust
• Ensure compliance with homelessness legislation, statutory guidance, and local policies
