About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values:
Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

The role involves conducting Parenting Assessments within designated timescales as per the established framework. The primary responsibility is to evaluate and identify levels of risk and need for children and young people who are in care, subject to a child protection plan, or identified as children in need. This includes delivering protective or supportive services accordingly to ensure their safety and well-being.

The ideal candidate should have experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and their families, including undertaking specialist Parent Assess. They should be knowledgeable in using a psychodynamic framework to understand family dynamics and support families in reaching their potential. Experience in conducting parenting programs is also essential to effectively carry out the duties of the role.

About the Team

This is an exciting opportunity to join a strong, dynamic and specialist team working as part of an internal resource for the conducting of all court directed and Public Law Outline parenting capacity assessments (PCA). We are on a journey of development and expansion. The Team consists of 4 social workers, 2 senior practitioners and 2 outreach workers.

About You

You’re a qualified Social Worker with a number of years’ experience delivering high quality statutory practice with children in care and their families. You confidently undertake court directed parenting capacity assessments (including Parent Asess), lead programmes, and provide purposeful work to safeguard and promote wellbeing. Working in partnership with statutory and third sector agencies, you translate assessment findings into SMART, child centred plans and produce clear, evidence based reports and statements for court when required.

You bring strong analytical and communication skills, completing high quality assessments and chronologies within prescribed timescales. You apply relevant legislation, guidance and social work method to promote positive change, formulate care plans and packages of support, and present complex information confidently. You have proven experience with adults or children and young people across linguistically and culturally diverse communities, including direct work with disabled children and young people at times of change and loss, demonstrating cultural competence and rigorous safeguarding practice.
