Who are we looking for?The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, residents, contractors, and visitors across the UCL East Campus. This role combines front‑of‑house customer service duties with essential security functions including safeguarding, access control, accommodation support, and proactive patrols. Officers must uphold UCL values, demonstrate high professional standards, and ensure compliance with site procedures, including the Gallagher Access Control and Alarm Management System.
You will be working an average of 42 hours per week on a 4 days, 4 off, 4 nights, 4 off rotation. Shifts will be 07:00‑19:00 or 19:00‑07:00.

- Excellent communication skills and a strong customer focus.
- A valid SIA Door Supervisor License – essential
- A valid SIA CCTV License – desirable
- Experience with Gallagher Access Control System (or similar)
- Confidence and ability to establish and maintain good and effective working relationships at all levels.
- Ability to work to deadlines, multitasking and working under pressure.
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Software Packages (e.g. Excel)
- Able to achieve vetting to BS7858 Standards
- Provide a professional, friendly, and customer‑focused presence at reception points and security desks.
- Assist students, visitors, and contractors with way finding, enquiries, and building access procedures.
- Ensure reception and lobby areas are maintained to a high standard and kept free from obstructions.
- Promote a safe and supportive environment for all students, acting in line with UCL safeguarding policies.
- Respond appropriately to concerns related to vulnerable adults, welfare incidents, or students in distress.
- Conduct welfare checks when requested.
- Badge creation and card activation/deactivation.
- Respond to door alarms, forced entry alarms, and technical alerts.
- Conduct internal and external patrols.
- Complete daily occurrence logs, incident reports, safeguarding logs, access requests, and defect reports.
