You will provide technical support to the Tate Group with a primary focus on running, optimising, and expanding chemoproteomics workflows. You will be responsible for sample preparation and data analysis for large-scale proteomics and chemoproteomics experiments, particularly those related to protein modification, interactomics, and cysteine profiling.
The data generated will contribute to cutting-edge projects in chemical biology and drug discovery and will underpin the development of state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) models with collaborators. You will support a wide range of projects within the Tate Group and assist external collaborators by coordinating sample submission, preparation, and data processing.
Alongside your research support activities, you will contribute to the day-to-day running of the laboratory, including maintaining good laboratory practice, organising consumables, supporting safety compliance, and training new group members in chemoproteomics workflows.
What you would be doingYou will be an enthusiastic and capable individual with prior relevant laboratory experience gained in an academic or industrial environment. You will support the Tate Group across a variety of chemical biology projects with a specific focus on proteomics and chemoproteomics. You will take responsibility for the coordination and execution of chemoproteomics experiments, including the implementation and optimisation of existing workflows, and the development and refinement of high-throughput sample preparation methods for the Evosep–tims
TOF HT platform, with opportunities to contribute to novel method development. You will use and further develop automation for proteomics sample preparation, using our King Fisher and other automation equipment to enhance throughput, robustness, and reproducibility of workflows.
In addition, you will provide training to PhD students, postdocs, and new lab members in chemoproteomics workflows from sample preparation through to data analysis, helping to build capability and standardisation within the group. You will support the smooth running of the Tate Group laboratories by contributing to good laboratory practice, stock management, and safety compliance, and will assist with the coordination of sample submissions and workflows for external collaborators.
You will be expected to attend appropriate training courses to develop new skills and to master new approaches and techniques relevant to chemoproteomics, proteomics data analysis, and laboratory operations, thereby supporting the continuous improvement of the Tate Group’s research capabilities.
Essential criteria for the role include:
- A MSc qualification in biochemistry, chemical biology, chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a closely related field, or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience.
- Experience in laboratory-based experimental work in proteomics or chemoproteomics workflows, automation, and the use of relevant data analysis software.
- Knowledge of current LC-MSMS approaches for proteomics and chemoproteomics
Desirable experience for this role includes one or more of the following: experience in related chemical biology techniques (e.g. click chemistry); data analysis of large datasets; relevant laboratory management; sample preparation of cellular material for proteomics/chemoproteomics.
