Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cardiovascular Science

The William Harvey Research Institute at Queen Mary University of London is inviting applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cardiovascular Science. This fixed-term position is funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and will be based within the internationally recognised cardiovascular research environment of the William Harvey Research Institute. The appointed researcher will contribute to a project focused on advancing understanding of cardiovascular biology and disease mechanisms, particularly in areas such as endothelial cell biology and vascular plasticity.
This role involves conducting cutting‑edge research using conditional gene knockout models, in vivo cell tracking, and single‑cell RNA sequencing to investigate factors that underlie cardiovascular disease processes including atherosclerosis. You will join a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary team and contribute to the Institute’s commitment to translational research that informs prevention, diagnosis and therapeutic strategies across cardiovascular medicine. Alongside your research duties, you will be expected to engage in preparation of data, analysis of experimental results, dissemination through scholarly publication, and participation in academic activities within the Institute’s vibrant research culture.
Criteria
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in cardiovascular biology, biomedical sciences, physiology, molecular biology, or a closely related discipline relevant to the research focus. Candidates nearing completion and awaiting award of their doctoral degree may also be considered, subject to the conditions of appointment. Demonstrated commitment to high-quality research and a strong academic record are expected.
Required expertise/skills- Strong background in cardiovascular biology and endothelial cell biology
, with relevant laboratory experience. - Experience with conditional gene knockout models in mice or comparable in vivo systems, including design and execution of related experiments.
- Proficiency in in vivo cell tracking techniques and single‑cell RNA sequencing or equivalent high‑resolution cellular profiling approaches.
- Ability to analyse complex biological datasets, integrate diverse experimental outputs, and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
The salary for this position is in the range of £38,419 to £44,288 per annum
, depending on experience and inclusive of the London Allowance.
